“In 2012-2013 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading, 3 through 8 in math, in grades 5 and 8 in science and writing in grades 4, 8 and 10. The FCAT 2.0 is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Florida. The FCAT 2.0 has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.” –Florida Department of Education
What’s more impressive is the school’s performance compared to others in the county and the state. Last year, Hunter’s Creek Elementary ranked higher than 89.5 percent of schools in the state, and came in 16th in the elementary schools within the Orange School District. Its performance rating in the years 2008 through 2011 earned an “A” and the school’s student to teacher ratio is just 16 to 1. That too, is an impressive figure, as many elementary educational facilities across the state have a far higher student to teacher ratio, in some cases, nearly 30 to 1 or more. There are about fifty full-time teachers serving the students with a large support staff for both students and faculty.
